The Full Story

Melanie Getman is a first generation Chinese-Portuguese American born (June 8th, 1991) in San Francisco and raised at the intersection of its North Beach and Chinatown neighborhoods. Supplemented by a brief education at Ruth Asawa School of the Arts, she is a primarily self taught contemporary multi-disciplinary artist combining digital illustrations with oils, acrylics, aerosols and more to create both small and large format works. Common themes explored by the artist include childhood innocence, nostalgia, female empowerment, and fantastical introspection— drawing inspiration from a myriad of influences: street art, comic books, animated film, encyclopedic illustration, 90’s era grunge and electro-pop aesthetics, as well as an eclectic array of fine art movements such as Surrealism, 19th Century Modernismo, and Abstract Expressionism. She is currently a full time painter and muralist with over 30 murals spanning across the Bay Area, greater Los Angeles, Chicago, and Costa Rica in addition to her freelance work as an illustrator, graphic designer, and amateur animator. The aforementioned pursuits have led her to found merchandise/branding studio EnjoySnackTime which has benefitted from collaborations with affiliates like Bacardi, Woodford Reserve, Tullemordew, Campari, and more. In the last three years, Getman has also dabbled in a myriad of interior decor projects resulting in but not limited to the design and installation of stained glass windows, enamel techniques, custom textiles, wallpaper, and sculptural art installations.
